About Me

Education:
• University of Portland Bachelor of Arts in a Theology• Birth photographer since 2014• DONA birth doula training 2017 • Stillbirthday Birth and Bereavement Doula Certification 2019 • BLS

Hi, I’m Sarah Paradis. Wife, mom of six, homeschooler, Catholic, runner, volunteer, certified doula, birth photographer, and lover of coffee. Welcome to my website and thank you for taking the time to consider me as your doula for your upcoming birth.

I’m a native PNWer growing up in SE Portland. I’ve always loved babies and birth since a young age. I was the six year old checking out the “how babies are made” books at the library and fascinated with OMSI’s life room. I was a nanny for families with multiples, helping care for babies beginning in the NICU, and providing night relief for families to get much needed sleep. I applied for nursing school thinking I’d go into midwifery and was accepted to Concordia’s accelerated program. Well things changed due to some big life events and I decided to follow my other passion, my Catholic faith and ministry, and went on to the University of Portland and received a degree in theology with a youth ministry focus instead. After college though I knew I still wanted to do something involving pregnancy, birth, and babies.

Fast forward a few years, my husband graduating medical school, a big cross country move, and a few pregnancies of my own... I dove head first into my passion for birth and photography and began to attend births in 2014 capturing the moments during labor, birth, and golden hours. As I attended and captured births I knew there was more I wanted to do. I wanted to be able to support in a more physical way. In 2016 I began to pursue the roll of a doula and found that this was my calling. As a doula you are there to support physically, emotionally, and informationally during labor and birth, this combined my love for birth and my love for ministry in a very unique way. Spring of 2017 I completed my birth doula training with world renowned trainer Jesse Remer through DONA International and began to attend births as the primary role of a doula, as well as still providing birth photography. In 2019 I certified through Stillbirthday, adding bereavement to my training so I could be there to support birth in every trimester and every outcome. Today, I am finishing my DONA certification to be a more well rounded doula in our community and further my abilities and knowledge in helping others towards a positive birth experience.

So there you have it, I look forward to getting to know more about you as well soon!

Bereavement Services

When I became a doula I knew I wanted to be available for every birth outcome. I first trained with DONA but went on to become a Stillbirthday Certified Doula as well. What does this mean? It means I attend births in every trimester. It means I’m there for the happy and the heartbreaks that come along. I’m there to walk aside you and hold space.

I’ve had four losses of my own and one thing I look back on and wish is that I had support during those times of raw grief.  As a bereavement doula I am here to support and acknowledge you, your baby, your birth, and what you are going through.

I offer bereavement services free of charge.

If you’d like to donate towards bereavement support funds, please contact me.

“We loved having Sarah at our birth! She was so patient and easy to work with during what was an intense experience. The support she provided and images she was able to capture were stunning and will be lifelong keepsakes! My birth experience was such a positive one. I highly recommend working with her if you have the chance.”
